Dem fraid fi friten di touris dem!....non of us want to here dem ting deh, but for first time visitors, with all the bad press anyway, this incident just MIGHT tend to turn them off completely....glad I wasn't there to see it happen....Yard jjustice prevails, looks like.

I've heard so many versions of the story, all similar, but details different as to what caused the uproar in the first place. I don't know the owner or the Yardies involved, but it does tend to leave a bad taste in my mouth....that white powder no good fi nuttin!

JaMiss, you back yet? You in culture shock? you can always go back earlier than your normal 6 months. I believe you only have to stay off island 1 day.

I heard they tore down 23/7.....it was too nice of a place to destroy. Too much scandal and drugs it sounds like.

nuff folks loved hanging around 23/7 ... I had only my first visit on our date night my last night on Island. We got my margarita at Roots Bamboo, then meandered over to 23/7 ... sat there for a soda pop, then we left.

tough scene played out ... for sure.

Yes Schultz, I'm back. Having big time &quot;Miss My Ted&quot; days. Don't miss the hassles in Ja, which are plenty when you build. Ted promised me he wouldn't let me want to build anymore, but then we got to talking about gutters and catchment of rainwater for his garden. That is not long term commitment to building, so will probably do that, since he and I are saving for it.

Don't know when I return as I have some medical problems, AGAIN. Geesh! My body is getting in the way of my pleasant retirement days. Also that 6 month thing where we can only be in Ja for 6 months out of the year means I probably can't return until October.

i did a little googling about getting residency in jamaica so you can come and go at will - no 6 month restriction - it seems to cost less than extending a tourist visa - here's an article to get you started - i also saw some things on the embassy website

OK - I guess I am getting confused ... of course my extended stays time is years off yet ... but - Ja.Missie - are you saying that someone as yourself is only allowed to be on the Island for a total of 6 months per year?

I thought it was that one had to &quot;leave the Island&quot; after 6 months / now 3 months with $$$ extensions option available ...

yes honey, new rule - a total of 6 months within one calendar year is the time limit

<span style="font-style: italic">eta: my bad, apparently is a not a 'new' rule but one that has long been on the books but ignored; which they have recently begun to more strictly enforce</span>

It is really a big fat problem with this 3 mo/6 mo, also 6 mo in calendar year only. It doesn't really faze me when I have medical problems, BUT I do want to look into residency. I looked into it 5 years ago and they said I wouldn't qualify because I left the island for more than 2 weeks. That was in Kingston when I was traying to look into residency/citizenship. I think the rules have changed because at the time residency took 5 years, then you could apply for citizenship after getting residency.

Also the 3 mo and must pay is not the only way. You can leave after 3 mos, like I did when we went to Curacao, returned in 4 days and was admitted for another 3 months.

I have talked to some of the wintering peeps and one says he is going to go to Puerto Rico from now on, where he can come and go at will as a US citizen.

I do want to check on visas but haven't done research into where the nearest Jamaican Embassy is from Oregon, probably Seattle or somewhere in California. Health comes first with me.

a friend i met - rode on the back of a motorbike to go to mobay to do her extension - i don't think she was wearing a dress or sleeves - and she got the extension

and despite all bnewbies protestations - it doesn't appear that <span style="font-style: italic">she</span> goes away for 6 months at a time

and there is a difference between tourist visa extension and residency

oh and i got a 6 day refund from THE BLACK MOLD MOTEL - Caribbean Sunset

but i wrote orbitz back and told them that i wanted the 7th day too - because my not staying there had nothing to do with my not wanting to stay there that the hotel was unsafe

the woman i contacted on tripadvisor said her room had mold too but she didn't want to tell me and scare me off isn't that what travel reviews are supposed to help you with?
